How Acai Freeze Came to Be

Quite the Mess, Quite the Wait

There’s no doubt that acai is all the rage right now. Whether you’re eating it as a base to a smoothie bowl, a flavor in your lemonade, or your grandma is adding the power to boost her berry pie– it’s everywhere right now. And it’s so good for you! When owner Kendel Locke opened her (and the) first acai bowl shop in the Midwest, the reaction was no different. It blew up! Customers lined up in the drive thru before opening every morning and employees had to barricade the entrance every night at close to prevent last minute stragglers from slipping in after hours.

So, everyone loved the product, but there was one big problem with acai that kept popping up. It. Stains. Everything. Employees’ shoes were dyed purple after a few shifts. One drop on a customer’s shirt could ruin it unless they were able to race home and throw it in the wash in time. Spilled your bowl in the car? May as well start saving up for a new seat because chances are, it’s not coming out.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this makes acai quite a bit less appealing. And so did the long drive thru line 24/7!! Customers couldn’t beat the rush even if they came before the shop opened! The lunch hour line was sometimes 15-20 cars deep. Employees worked as fast as they could, but it could still be up to an hour wait! Say goodbye to your break from work. Now you have to speed race (and try not to spill your bowl while doing it) back to the office. Ugh!!!

Quicker, Easier, Cleaner– Still Delicious!

Kendel knew she had to come up with a solution to these issues, and fast! She knew people would eventually get tired of these daily problems; despite how much they loved the product.

“I have to make my products cleaner, easier, and make them more convenient for people to eat. But I can’t sacrifice the flavor that they know and love!” 

This is how Acai Freeze was born. The same flavor that brought in customers at the crack of dawn, but in the safety of a plastic tube. Customers could purchase freezes from the shop, take them home or to work, and enjoy them whenever the consumer wanted. No more long drive thru lines for breakfast or lunch. No more worries about acai dripping off the spoon onto your clothes or your bowl tipping over in your car. Now your lunch break from work can really be a break!

Delicious and Nutritious

Acai Freeze was originally planned to be the more convenient, more accessible solution to messy acai bowls. But why stop there? Why not design them to have even more value for the consumer?

This idea is what birthed more variations of freezes. Acai Freeze now offers alternate flavors– including dragon fruit, mango, and coconut. Those all have their own variations with additional supplements and vitamins. Customers can currently boost their freezes with added whey or soy protein, and collagen powder– more options to be added soon!
